Kaleo Sermon Notes from Aug. 24, Day 3, Parable of the Sower

[Mat 13:18-23 ESV] 18 "Hear then the parable of the sower: 19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path. 20 As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy, 21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away. 22 As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. 23 As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty."

What person are you in this parable? Are you the hard hearted rejecter of the word of the Kingdom who has been snatched away? Are you shallow soil in rocky ground who receives with joy, but then falls away with tribulation or persecution that will inevitably arise on account of the word of the Kingdom because they are not rooted? Are you among thorns with the cares of this world and the pursuit of riches that lead to spiritual complacency and carnality, which are choking the word of the Kingdom and yielding no fruit? Or, are you good soil who is hearing the word of the Kingdom and understanding it in its fullness, bearing good fruit over and over and over again?

It's time for us to look in the mirror and evaluate who we really are. Jesus confronts us with the truth. He also gives opportunity to turn back to Him and repair the damage done. He is the God of the second chance. He is patient and wants to produce good soil in you and your ministry. Be stretched, broken, and healed by the Lord. Let Him do His refining work in you.

*Life Point* Be good soil in receiving the word of the Kingdom.
