Isaiah 57
-On this earth, no one considers
the earthly perishing or taking away of the righteous man. God is simply taking
the upright to a better place away from evil into perfect peace and rest
(Isaiah 57:1-2). On the other hand, the sorceress, who is called the “offspring
of an adulterer and a prostitute” and “wicked,” will be tossed like the sea in
an uproar of noise tossing up refuse and mud with no peace (Isaiah 57:3,
20-21). The wicked are further rebuked being called the “children of rebellion”
and “offspring of deceit” who the LORD will not relent concerning His
punishment. They have worshiped idols on the high and lofty mountain and have set
up their sign of false deities removing themselves far from the LORD God of
Israel. They have uncovered themselves in filth and shame. Sheol is their
destiny since they would not give God a thought. Their idols will not save;
they will be blown away. But, the one who takes refuge in the LORD will inherit
the land and possess His holy mountain (Isaiah 57:4-13). God’s presence will
dwell with the contrite and lowly of spirit, not the proud and haughty. He will
revive them and sustain them with His righteousness. He will not contend
forever. His patience has limits. If people come to Him, His desire for healing
and peace is reiterated (Isaiah 57:14-19). *Application* The miraculous power
to save by the Almighty should not be lost on us in this generation. Who do you
look for to carry you through all the difficulties of this present evil age in
which we live? Is it God or someone/something else? We truly NEED the LORD for
ultimate peace, rest, and healing.
