Psalms Bible Study Notes Chapters 47-49

3/7/2012
Psalm 47

-Theme: God is the King over the whole earth. Everyone will eventually recognize his Lordship. He is to be praised and exalted!

-*Application* Fear of the LORD is the most intelligent thing one could ever consider. Humble yourself before Him and give Him all glory. He will reign and rule with His people. He will one day ascend with a shout, with the sound of the trumpet taking control of His holy temple on His holy throne and nothing can stop Him. This is a great prophetic hope for His chosen ones since we will reign with Him in the Kingdom.

Psalm 48

-Theme: God’s presence is the source of our joy, security, and salvation. He is the stout defender of Jerusalem, His holy city. He is our guide and defender forever.

-*Application* I have had the personal experience of doing just what this chapter speaks of. I have explored the holy city of Jerusalem and seen the majestic towers and ramparts. I highly recommend it to anyone. It is a special place that no one can deny. Our Savior Jesus Christ died there for the sins of the world, and He will soon come back to subdue all of its troubles restoring His Davidic throne in this physical place. O will Mount Zion be glad when her King arrives and brings order out of the current chaos that surrounds her. And so will His people. He is our guide.

Psalm 49

-Theme: Trusting in riches and worldly possessions is absolutely futile. The price of redemption is costly and we must cease striving for it in our own power.

-*Application* The psalmist implores all of us to listen and take heed to this wisdom and understanding. There is no fear in adversity and the foes of evil that surround us when God is our Savior. Even the rich cannot trust in anything but Him for their salvation. The redemption of the soul is costly and none can attain except the LORD. He (Jesus Christ) is our salvation because of His shed blood, an acceptable sacrifice for sin. We can cease striving forever. He has paid the price and only He can save (1 Peter 3:18, Hebrews 9:11-28). There will be a perishing of those who try to obtain this great salvation by their own strength and power. Their riches and possessions will surely fail to gain eternal life. God is the only redeemer from Sheol. Unless we have spiritual understanding of this Savior we will perish like the beasts.

Verse to Memorize: Psalm 49:8
