Psalms Bible Study Notes Chapters 40-41

3/3/2012

Psalm 40

-Theme: Wait patiently on the LORD for a restoring and new song. Trust in Him. Sacrifices and meal offerings pale in comparison to the unsurpassing greatest of doing His will with His law in your heart. Praise the LORD and do not hide your enthusiasm! His compassion, help, and deliverance are not withheld.

-*Application* U2’s song “40” is based on this Psalm. There is nothing like hearing a new song and this is what we can sing in our LORD because of His compassion and mercy. He hears our cries and He rewards our patient forbearance. How blessed it is to know that many will see and fear and trust in the LORD of the universe. He is our delight even when we are afflicted and needy.

Psalm 41

-Theme: When everyone else abandons and forsakes you, God remains at your side. This is a prayer for mercy.

-*Application* God considers the helpless and delivers them in the day of trouble. God is the protector and savior of the ill and will restore him to health. He is blessed forever and ever! He is the God of Israel and His people that believe.

Verses to Memorize: Psalm 40:1-2
