Bible Study Notes in Psalms- Chapter 96

Psalm 96

-Theme: Praising God through singing, proclamation, offering, and worship in preparation of His coming righteous judgment of this world.

-Historical Insight: This anonymous Psalm was possibly from King David, or at least inspired by him, because it closely resembles his hymn of praise in 1 Chronicles 16:23-36.

-*Application* God gives us new songs to sing to Him in exaltation and blessing upon His Name. We should in like manner proclaim His good tidings of His salvation every single day of our lives (Psalm 96:1-2). If His glory is to be revealed among the nations and peoples of this earth, it is our solemn duty to spread His gospel truth. He is worthy and Creator of all. He is to be feared above all other gods, which amount to nothing more than idols (Psalm 96:3-5, Revelation 9:20). God is a God of splendor and majesty, strength and beauty, and deserving of all praise. We should bring our offerings of time, talent, and treasure before Him as we enter His courts and tremble in reverential awe before His grandeur (Psalm 96:6-9). Our God reigns and will not be moved. His transcendence is firmly established in the world, and He, only He, will judge the peoples of this earth with equity (fairness, uprightness). Heaven is glad and the earth rejoices, sea, field, tree, and forest, before the LORD as they anticipate His coming in righteous and faithful judgment (Psalm 96:10-13). Spend some time really praising the greatness of God today and every day after. This is our eternal song!

Verse to Memorize: Psalm 96:13
