Hosea Bible Study Notes Chapter 5

7/2/2012
Hosea 5

-The stumbling and depravity of the priests, the house of Israel, and the house of the king because of their iniquity is dealt with by the LORD in this chapter. In God’s words, “the judgment applies” to them (Hosea 5:1). *Application* We cannot pull one over on the LORD. He sees and knows everything and is just in His decisions. We are without excuse. He has revealed His requirements to us and will withdraw (Hosea 5:6) from those who are disobedient even though He is patient for a time (2 Peter 3:9). He is slow to anger (Numbers 14:18), but when His wrath comes, it is distinct and exacting. It also has a purpose as we see here. God’s punishment is levied so that we will acknowledge guilt and seek His face. In affliction, God’s desire is for us to seek Him (Hosea 5:15). Do not deal treacherously against the LORD. Do not be unfaithful in pride (Hosea 5:3,5,7). These fruits will eventually bring God’s wrath upon you. His authority will not be usurped in the end. It is better for us to know our rightful place and enjoy the peace He gives in that security of submission.

Verse to Memorize: Hosea 5:15
