Isaiah 60
-Isaiah 60 speaks of the
future-glorified Kingdom of God in Zion. At that time their Light will come,
arising and shining on His people and all of faith in Him. Nations will come to
the Light; He will be the brightness. “Lift up your eyes round about and see;
they all gather together, they come to you [Zion] (Isaiah 60:1-4).” They will
come from afar to the land. The people will see and be radiant. Their hearts
will be thrilled and rejoice in the abundance as the wealth of the nations
comes (Isaiah 60:5-9). God’s wrath is swallowed up in His blessing and
compassion as foreigners build the walls and the gates are opened continually
to bring in the wealth of the world. The nation that does not serve the LORD
will perish in utter ruin. God’s sovereignty dominates this future glory. The
forsaken and hated will become an everlasting pride and joy from generation to
generation as people “know” that the LORD is Savior, Redeemer, and Mighty.
Instead of cheap materials, expensive and valuable works will be made in every
dimension. Peace will be their administrators and righteousness the overseers.
Violence will no longer be heard of in the land, nor the devastation or
destruction within the borders. Zion’s walls will be called salvation and the
gates praise. The LORD will be its only Light, no sun or moon. God is Zion’s
new and everlasting glory in this eschaton. All the people will be righteous
and take the heavenly land for an everlasting possession. They will be called
“the branch of My planting, the work of My Hands, that I may be glorified.” God
is personally hastening this time to come (Isaiah 60:10-22). This event is
parallel by the writing of John in his apocalyptic revelation at the end of
Scripture (Revelation 21:10-22:7).
