Isaiah 55
-God offers His free gift of
mercy for those who would partake and digest His living water and bread (John
4:10-14; 7:38-39; 6:35-48). His blessings are abundant and eternal. They give
life and are completely faithful, even as to His servant David. Even a nation
that is not known and does not yet know will be called and run to the promises
of the LORD God, the Holy One of Israel who has gloried His chosen people
(Isaiah 55:1-5). Therefore, the LORD beckons to “seek the LORD while He may be
found; call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the
unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return to the LORD, and He will have
compassion on him.” God abundantly pardons and will remember these sins no more
based on repentant turning (Psalm 103:12, Isaiah 55:6-7, Jeremiah 31:34).
*Application* God’s compassion is His enduring trait. Thank God for His
ultimate lovingkindness freely bestowed to His redeemed people.
-God’s thoughts are higher than
mere man’s thoughts, and His ways are superior by far. As the rain and snow
descend to the earth to water and pour out blessing in physical growth and
abundance, so too does God’s Word. It accomplishes everything that He wants it
to accomplish. His Word never returns empty (Isaiah 55:8-11). This can be
interpreted to mean that when we read, observe the life of Christ Jesus (who
was the Word made flesh), or bear His image as the Holy Spirit fills and indwells
us, we are involved in a powerful manifestation of the Word of God that will
not return empty and fulfill Divine purposes. Our testimony, the Bible, and the
life and person of Jesus Christ calls people to make a choice one way or the
other. The Word of God is either a sweet smelling aroma leading to eternal or a
stench of death resulting in perishing (1 Corinthians 2:14-17). It accomplishes
exactly what God desires in revealing the inner heart of people’s decisions.
*Application* Is the Word of God a refreshing-sweet aroma to you leading to
life? Or, have you been calloused and hard-hearted to the message of salvation?
Choose you this day whom you will serve. God is life and life more abundant and
joyful.
-Because of a great Redeemer, the
people have opportunity to go out with joy and be led forth in the peace of
God. The mountains, hills, and trees of the field will even become alive with
the shouts of this rejoicing and celebration. Instead of the cursed things,
vibrancy will spring up, and it will be a memorial and everlasting sign to the
LORD, which will never be cut off. God is making all things new in this
eschaton (Isaiah 55:12-13, Revelation 21:5). *Application* What a day of
rejoicing it will be when we reign with Jesus eternally!
