[Mat 22:11-14 ESV] 11 "But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment. 12 And he said to him, 'Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?' And he was speechless. 13 Then the king said to the attendants, 'Bind him hand and foot and cast him into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' 14 For many are called, but few are chosen."
This guest, called a friend by the king, came before the sovereign's presence with contempt and extreme pride. This disrespect was out of place because as an invited individual he refused the king's ordinary demands made upon him for the party.
As people born with a sin nature we often use the excuse, "I was born that way." From anger issues to deception to lust and sexual orientation we see common excuses based on habit and natural instinct. It is true that we "are born that way." To do righteousness, we must yield to the Holy Spirit and have a rebirth in our spirit through the work that Christ accomplished (see John chapter 3). The King's clothes are His gift to us, which we can freely receive. Humbly accept them rather than show contempt.
*Life Point* Lord, You are the way, the truth, the life, no one comes to You except through Jesus Christ (John 14:6).
