Revelation Bible Study Notes- Chapter 19

Chapter 19

-Now that Babylon has been destroyed, there is rejoicing in Heaven as Jesus prepares to come back in power, might, and glory. Loud voices call out from Heaven crying out “Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God, for His judgments are true and just; for He has judged the great prostitute who corrupted the earth with her immorality, and has avenged on her the blood of His servants. …The smoke from her goes up forever and ever (Revelation 19:1-3).” The 24 elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped the Lord who was seated on the throne with “Amen, Hallelujah (Revelation 19:4)!” And from the throne came a voice saying, “Praise our God, all you His servants, you who fear Him, small and great (Revelation 19:5).” Then John heard a great multitude crying out like the roar of many waters, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and exult and give Him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His Bride (the church, Ephesians 5:23-32) has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure (Revelation 19:6-8).” The fine linen is described as the righteousness of the saints (Revelation 19:8).

*Application* The scene of praise rocks! Exalt the Lord in your spirit even right now and join in a congregation that will lift the Lord high where He belongs while you’re still here on earth realizing Heaven is going to be sooooo awesome!!!!

-The angel attending to John instructs him to write: “Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb (Revelation 19:9).” The angel also said that these are accurate and true words of God (Revelation 19:9). John fell to worship the angel at this point, but was corrected so as not to do that since it was a fellow servant with him and his brothers in Christ. The angel tells John to worship God, for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy (Revelation 19:10).”

-Now the intensity dramatically picks up as the King of kings and Lord of lords appears as Heaven opens up and He comes riding a white horse as “Faithful and True (Revelation 19:11, 16).” In righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on His Head are many diadems, and he has a Name written that no one knows but Himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the Name by which He is called is “The Word of God (Revelation 19:11-13).” The armies of Heaven are following behind Him all on white horses. “From His mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On His robe and on His thigh He has a Name written, King of kings and Lords of lords “Revelation 19:14-16).”

-At this point there is an angel standing in the sun calling with a loud voice for all the birds to come together for the great supper of the Lord. This is scavenger language for the calamity that is about to befall the unbelieving world that is under the wrath of Almighty God. The armies of the beast with the kings of the earth gather to make war against Jesus, who is sitting on His horse and against the saints. The beast is captured along with the false prophet and the deceivers are thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur. The rest were slain by the sword that came from Messiah’s mouth, and all the birds were gorged with their flesh (Revelation 19:17-21).

-*Application* Jesus is coming back as a conquering hero of all that is right and just. He will take no prisoners this time around. This is what the saying “He will rule with a rod of iron” is all about. Vengeance is the Lord’s and His opponents do not have a chance for survival (Deuteronomy 32:41-43, Micah 5:15, Nahum 1:2, Luke 21:22, Romans 12:19, 2 Thessalonians 1:8). Don’t be caught on the Lord’s angry side! He is a consuming fire (Deuteronomy 4:24, Hebrews 12:29)! The destroyer of the wicked!

Verse to Memorize: Revelation 19:7
