John 16:21 "Whenever a woman is in
labor she has pain, because her hour has come; but when she gives birth to the
child, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy that a child has
been born into the world.”
-Jesus is speaking here in this passage of the grief of
His death, but the promise of His resurrection as compared to the agony of
childbirth, caused by the curse of sin, with the joy of new birth that erases
the pain of labor and striving. The spiritual implications between the birth
process and new life in Christ are worth meditating on for a while. The joy of
the new takes the place of the old struggle. Behold, Jesus is making all things
new (Revelation 21:5). Know that while there is sorrow in the night, joy comes
in the morning (Psalm 30:5)!
